  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce or ketchup
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp vegetable sauce substitute for Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for searing)
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 8 oz button mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tsp water (slurry, for thickening)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, panko breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, egg, yellow mustard, vegetable sauce, oregano, black pepper, and salt. Mix until just combined and shape into four patties.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sear the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned; then remove from skillet.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté onions and mushrooms until softened. Add beef broth, onion powder, garlic powder, and vegetable sauce. Bring to simmer.
  4. Return patties to the skillet and cook for about 10 minutes.
  5. To thicken the gravy, mix cornstarch with water and stir into the skillet. Cook for an additional minute until thickened.
