  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 3/4 cups (345 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 2/3 cup (130 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 egg, plus 1 egg yolk, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixer, cream room temperature butter with light brown and granulated sugars for 3 minutes.
  3. Add egg and vanilla; mix well.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix into wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips and set aside.
  6. For chocolate chip cookie dough, use cold cubed butter with both sugars; mix until creamy.
  7. Add egg and yolk one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  8. Combine dry ingredients separately; fold into wet mixture gently.
  9. Scoop out brownie dough balls smaller than chocolate chip cookie dough balls; press together before rolling into larger balls.
  10. Bake for 8-9 minutes until edges are set but centers are soft.
