  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 & 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast (cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large sweet onion (finely diced)
  • 8-ounce can tomato sauce
  • 1 & 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 & 1/2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
  • 2 teaspoons finely minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. For the marinade, whisk together yogurt, lemon juice, cumin, garam masala, chili powder, salt, ginger, and garlic. Coat chicken pieces and marinate for at least one hour.
  2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken until browned; remove from pan.
  3. In the same pan, sauté onions until soft. Add ginger and garlic; cook until fragrant.
  4. Stir in spices and brown sugar; cook briefly.
  5. Add tomato sauce and simmer until thickened.
  6. Mix in heavy cream; add seared chicken back into the pan. Cook until chicken is cooked through.
  7. Serve over basmati rice or with naan.
