  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (divided)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and grease an 8×8 pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon for the filling.
  3. In another bowl, sift flour, sugars, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Make a well and pour in buttermilk and melted butter; stir until soft dough forms.
  4. Knead gently on a floured surface for about 5-6 times; shape into a rectangle (10×14 inches).
  5. Spread remaining melted butter over the dough; sprinkle cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly.
  6. Roll tightly from one short side and slice into nine pieces.
  7. Place slices in the greased pan; drizzle with remaining butter and bake for 20-22 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow cooling slightly before frosting.
  9. For frosting: beat cream cheese and heavy cream together; gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder until smooth.
