  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • Filling: ½ cup softened butter, ¾ cup brown sugar, 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon, ½ cup crushed chocolate cookies, ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
  • Cream Cheese Icing: 4 oz cream cheese, softened; ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened; 1 cup powdered sugar; ½ teaspoon vanilla extract; milk for consistency

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast; let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in sugar, egg, egg yolk, melted butter, and vanilla. Gradually mix in flour and salt until dough forms.
  3. Knead until soft and slightly sticky; add blue food coloring and knead until well mixed.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl to rise for about 1 to 1½ hours until doubled.
  5. For filling, mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until smooth; stir in crushed cookies and chocolate chips.
  6. Roll out dough into a rectangle. Spread filling evenly and roll tightly into a log. Cut into 12 rolls.
  7. Place rolls in a greased baking dish; cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. For icing, beat together cream cheese and butter; gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla. Adjust with milk as needed.
