  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 large white onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 330 ml dark beef broth
  • 300 ml beef stock
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F). Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season and brown the minced beef; set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, sauté chopped onions until soft, add garlic, then stir in flour.
  3. Gradually add dark beef broth, scraping up any browned bits. Simmer until thickened.
  4. Combine the meat back into the skillet with beef stock, tomato paste, and thyme; simmer for about 45 minutes until thick.
  5. Pour filling into a pie dish, cover with puff pastry, seal edges, and brush with beaten egg.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
