  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 medium yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, soak the panko bread crumbs in milk until fully combined.
  3. Sauté onion in butter over medium heat until fragrant, then add minced garlic and cook until soft.
  4. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, soaked bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and sautéed onions and garlic. Mix gently.
  5. Shape the mixture into a loaf on the prepared sheet and create a crisscross pattern on top.
  6. Bake uncovered for about 40 minutes. Meanwhile, mix ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard for the topping.
  7. After 40 minutes, spread the topping over the meatloaf and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes or until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).
