Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/4 cups peanut butter
  • 9 cups powdered sugar
  • 67 tbsp water or milk
  • 6 Reese's, chopped
  • Pinch of salt
  • 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 8 Reese's, cut in half
  • Crumbling Reese's

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs. Mix well and add hot water gradually.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients; mix until just combined.
  5. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for about 22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. While cakes cool, whip together softened butter and peanut butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar while mixing and then add enough water or milk until you reach desired consistency.
  8. Once cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread frosting on top. Add chopped Reese's before placing the second layer on top. Frost the top and sides of your cake generously.
  9. For extra decadence, melt chocolate chips with heavy cream over low heat until smooth. Drizzle over your frosted cake and top with halved Reese's and crumbled pieces.
