  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, salt, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese gently.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg until smooth.
  6. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix just until combined; lumps are okay.
  7. Spoon the dough into the prepared loaf pan in chunky layers.
  8. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Brush with melted butter mixed with garlic powder while warm.
  10. Cool for about 10 minutes before slicing.
