  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast by warming milk to 110°F and mixing in yeast and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it foam for about 5 minutes.
  2. Combine flour, sugar, salt, cocoa powder, and red food coloring in a bowl.
  3. Mix in the yeast mixture along with softened butter, egg, and buttermilk until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 7–8 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place in a greased bowl and let rise covered until doubled (about an hour).
  6. Prepare filling by mixing brown sugar, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and cinnamon.
  7. Roll out dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter and sprinkle filling mixture evenly.
  8. Roll tightly into a log and slice into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Arrange slices in a greased dish; cover and let rise again for about 30–40 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 20–25 minutes until golden.
  11. To make the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
