  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Neutral oil for frying (e.g., canola)
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons crushed ginger
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture and cut it into small nuggets.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, salt, and garlic powder. Gradually add water to create a runny batter.
  3. Coat each tofu nugget in the batter.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry the tofu pieces until golden brown (5-6 minutes per side). Drain on paper towels.
  5. In another bowl, mix orange juice, sugar, tamari, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, pepper flakes, and cornstarch. Cook this mixture in a skillet until thickened (about 5 minutes).
  6. Toss the fried tofu in the sauce until well coated.
  7. Serve over rice and enjoy!
