Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup warm whole milk
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 ½4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 6 tablespoons salted butter, at room temperature
  • 12 cloves garlic, grated or finely chopped
  • ¼ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup fresh basil, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk, yeast, and honey in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add eggs, flour (3 ½ cups), and salt to the mixture. Mix well until combined; knead in butter for about 5 minutes.
  3. Allow the dough to rise covered in a warm place for about an hour until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the herb butter by mixing remaining butter with garlic, parmesan cheese, and herbs.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread the herb butter evenly over it.
  6. Roll tightly into a log and slice lengthwise while keeping one end attached; twist the halves together.
  7. Shape into an “S” on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let rise again for about 45 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for approximately 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
